This historic park overlooks Lighthouse Avenue and Monterey Bay and features several monuments to the region's early history. Some monuments are for Spanish Captain Gaspar de Portola and Father Junipero Serra, who claimed California for Spain in 1770.
Located at Oak and Newton Streets, Oak Newton Park is a 2.5-acre neighborhood park, featuring play equipment, turf area, open and covered BBQ picnic area, as well as restrooms and half basketball court.
Almost 8.5 mi of horseback riding and hiking trails are provided in this park. There is a self-guided nature trail featuring fossils from the Miocene epoch and passing through the summit of Jacks Peak.

Known throughout California for its playful, not-your-average park equipment and extensive size, the Dennis the Menace Park & Playground is a Monterey favorite with both kids and adults. The park was created in 1956 and opens daily at 10am (free admission).
This 2.8-acre neighborhood park is located by Jessie Street between Prescott Street and David Avenue. Facilities include play equipment, turf area, picnic area, BBQ, tennis court, basketball court and meeting and multi-purpose rooms.

Toro Park was first opened to the public in 1971. Visitors enjoy hiking, equestrian and mountain biking trails in this park. There are also horseshoe pits, volleyball courts, ballfields, picnic facilities and playgrounds for families and groups.
